The Preston House

The Preston House, once considered the oldest home in Terre Haute, was built in 1824 by Major George W. Dewees, on what was then a wooded area east of Terre Haute (modern day 13th 1/2 and Poplar Streets).  The house was thought to be haunted by Mr. Dewees' wife, Matilda, who he was rumored to have killed and bricked up inside the fireplace.  The Preston House is one of Terre Haute's great ghost stories!

You can learn more about The Preston House from Wikipedia, Facebook posts from the Vigo Co. Public Library, and YouTube videos from the VCPL as well as WTHI-TV.
